Connect your app to Perplexity

Perplexity combines web search with answers that cite their sources. Connect it to Mythos for an app that needs current information, research summaries, or longer reports about a topic.

Perplexity is an App + chat connector. You can use the same saved connection in project chat and in your published app. Mythos uses your own Perplexity API key, with usage billed to your Perplexity account.

Your app can search for recent information, return answers with source links, focus research on particular sources, or request a more detailed report. Tell Mythos whether speed or depth matters more, and which dates, domains, or kinds of sources the feature should use.

Keep the citations visible in your app. For decisions that depend on accuracy, open the original sources and check their dates and context.

Connect Perplexity to Mythos

You need permission to create App + chat connections in your workspace. If a suitable saved connection is available, you can link it to your project instead of creating another.

Before you start

You will need:

Access to the Perplexity API console.
An API key for the account or API group you want to use.
API billing or available API credits.
Permission to create the connection in Mythos.

Perplexity API credits are separate from a Perplexity Pro subscription. A Pro account alone does not establish that your API requests have available credit.

1. Get an API key

Sign in to the Perplexity API console.
Complete the API account or group setup if prompted, then check its billing and credit balance.
Open API keys and generate a key with a name such as Mythos research.
Copy the key and keep it secure. Perplexity keys start with pplx-.

Paste the key into the connection’s credential field, not a chat message or public file. See Perplexity’s key management guide for its account-side controls.

2. Add the connection

Open Connectors from the Dashboard and select Perplexity. If a connection already exists, select Add connection to open a new form.
Enter a Display name, such as Market research.
Paste the key into API key.
Under Sharing, keep Private or choose Share with others to select workspace members. Choose Share with workspace when everyone in the workspace should be able to use it.
Click Connect Perplexity. Mythos checks access to the account’s model catalog before saving the connection.

In your project, open Chat actions (+) → Project connectors, select the connection, and click Use in this project.

Try a focused request:

Use Perplexity to compare the current pricing of [three products]. Include a source link and the date of the information for each result.

Then ask Mythos to turn that research into the search or reporting feature your app needs. Describe what a user enters, what the result should show, and whether results should be saved.

Usage and billing

Perplexity bills API requests to your account. Search, cited answers, and detailed research can have different costs. Consult Perplexity pricing when choosing features or setting usage limits.

Mythos does not provide a managed Perplexity allowance. Search and research in project chat can use API credits without a separate approval question. Define the scope of your request before asking for research: reading information from the web can still incur a provider charge.

Limitations

The connector cannot replenish your Perplexity API balance or rotate its own key.
Linked projects use the account behind the saved key; each app visitor does not sign in to a separate Perplexity account.
A cited answer still depends on the sources found. It does not guarantee that every claim is correct or that every relevant source is available.

If requests fail

For an insufficient quota or credit error, check the API account behind the key. Check its API balance even if your Perplexity Pro subscription is active.

If the key is rejected, confirm that you copied the whole API key and that it has not been revoked. If only one feature fails, check the chosen model, request settings, and account access to that feature. Reduce request frequency when Perplexity reports a rate limit.

Manage the connection

Open Connectors → Perplexity and select the saved connection. Use Unlink projects to remove selected projects, or Disconnect to stop access through the connection.

Disconnecting does not refund requests already made or remove research saved in your app. To replace the key, disconnect the old connection, create a new one with the replacement key, and link it to the affected projects. Ask Mythos to set up their app features again.
