The workspace editor lets you change project files directly in your browser. It is useful for small, precise updates when editing the code is easier than describing the change in chat. You do not need to use the editor to build with Mythos. If you are not comfortable reading code, continue with [Build](/features/building-and-editing) and describe the result you want. > **Note** > > Viewing project code is available on every plan. Editing and saving code directly > require an active **Pro or Business** subscription in the workspace and permission > to edit the project. These actions do not spend AI credits; a credit balance alone > does not unlock them. See the [current plans and pricing](https://mythos.new/pricing). > **Warning** > > The editor does **not** save automatically. Select **Save** or press > **Ctrl+S** (**Cmd+S** on Mac) before leaving the page or switching to work you > cannot afford to lose. ## Edit a file #### Open Code Switch the right side of the workspace to **Code**. The file tree shows the files available in the current project. #### Choose a file Select a text file to open it in the editor. Binary files can be viewed in the tree but cannot be edited as text. #### Make the change Type in the editor. A dot beside the filename marks it as having unsaved changes. #### Save explicitly Select **Save** or press **Ctrl+S** (**Cmd+S** on Mac). For supported file types, Mythos formats the saved text and returns the formatted result to the editor. #### Check Preview Return to Preview and verify the page or behavior you changed. A successful save becomes a new entry in [Version history](/features/version-history). ## Save or discard a draft The **Save** button becomes available when the current file has unsaved changes. Select **Discard** to return that file to its last saved contents. If saving fails, Mythos keeps the draft and explains the problem. Fix that problem before trying **Save** again. If the save is still being verified, use **Check save status** first; do not submit a second save just because the result is taking time. If the project file changed elsewhere, compare the saved file with your draft. **Keep my version** keeps your edits so the next Save can replace that file; **Discard my changes** accepts the project's version. Copy any text you need before discarding it. Closing or reloading the browser with unsaved files triggers a warning, but you should still save important work before leaving. ## Good to know * Directly saving a file does not start an AI Build. * The editor keeps a separate undo history and cursor position for each file while you work. * One file is active at a time; there is no multi-tab code view. * Some project setup files are protected. Edit application code instead, or ask Mythos to make a broader change. * Editing is locked while you preview an earlier version. Return to the latest version first. * The full editor is intended for a desktop browser. On a small screen, Mythos asks you to continue on desktop. ## Troubleshooting | Problem | What to do | | ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | The Save button is unavailable | Select an editable text file and make a change. Save is disabled when there is nothing new to save. | | Save failed | Your draft stays in the editor. Resolve the reported problem before retrying. | | Save is being verified | Choose **Check save status** and wait for the result before another save. | | File changed elsewhere | Compare versions, then keep your draft or choose **Discard my changes**. | | A file is protected | Change an application file or ask Mythos to make the update through Build. | | The editor is read-only | Check that the workspace has active Pro or Business access, that you can edit the project, and that you are viewing its latest version. | | The editor asks for a desktop | Open the workspace in a desktop browser with a wider screen. | ## Related * [Building and editing](/features/building-and-editing) — ask Mythos to change the project. * [Version history](/features/version-history) — preview or restore an earlier saved result. > Learn how to turn an idea into a working app, improve it in Mythos, and publish it when it is ready.
